733t 5p34k fTW

ok, no more 733t 5p34k.

here are the pets! misty, merlin, shadow, and molly is in one of the pics with misty. as you can see, misty was having fun in the christmas tree. she loved it even more when it was up with all teh pretty, colourful, dangly decorations hanging off it. the first night she actually climbed it, and was sitting near the top of the tree. every other night she got in her usual playful mood and started pulling decorations off the tree and playing with them. kind of expensive if she breaks them, cause out decorations usually cost $8 each + cause theyre mostly all hallmark decorations. ha. ah well. we appreciated her de-decorating near the end, cause it saved us some time pulling the decorations off the tree. when the tree was pulled apart it was on teh floor in a pile for a while, and misty kept climbing under it and pouncing on any unknowing passer-by. and mums foot.

White lions, scorpions and festivity!

First of all, and the earliest thing i will mention is the new boarders at bahrs scrub. two days ago carl came home with two scorpions in a container i had already specifically made for them, with a dividing compartment thingy, the correct substrate etc. what we ended up with were two small scorpions, Liocheles waigiensis to be specific. one is a very bloated looking one, which is very aggressive, and a smaller one which hides a lot lol.

secondly, theres turts hatchday! as you probably know, turt hatched on teh 2nd of january, 2006, so today, the 3rd of january 2007 she is a year and a day old!!

thirdly, i won the best competition i possibly could. a while ago mum saw a competition on the tv about some white lion cubs, and peugeot. i went to the website, and the competition was to name the two new born lion cubs at Mogo Zoo, near Sydney. I entered tonnes of names, and it appears as though it was worthwhile. The owners of the zoo chose two of the names i entered, and i won the competition. the awesome prize is the honour of naming the white lion cubs, peugeot pays for the airfares for mum, dad, carl and i (or, technically anyone i wanted to take) to sydney, we get to use a brand new peugeot 407 while we're in sydney for the two days, entry into the zoo, a private tour of the zoo with its owners, and two of us get to go in and actually PLAY with the white lion cubs! what more could you ask for?! i cant wait, and i still cant believe i won!

i still feel like im in a dream, that its not real, that im hallucinating. I got an email at 10am saying id won. all i did was read the first line, read 'winner' and 'peugeot' and ran to get mum to see if it was real. i was so hyped up when i was trying to explain to mum what i wanted her to check, it took me at least 4 times for her to understand what i was going on about. she came, checked it, and it was real. then i rang the number the email said to, talked to the guy, then he sent me another email. at the moment theyre sorting out flights and accomodation for us. it feels.. unreal. i get the once in a lifetime, super rare opportunity to cuddle and play with the 2month old white lion cubs. also the zoo has snow leopards, jaguars, meerkats, and a stack of other animals ive always wanted to see, and theyre rare pride of white lions is now up to 7. 1 adult male, 2 adult females, 2 5mnth old cubs and the two 2mnth old cubs which i just named! the names the zoo owners chose were "Tamu" for the male cub, and tamu means "sweet one" and "gentle". the female cub is now named "kito" which means "precious" and "rare jewel". I still cant believe it. i really cant. its made my day

heres the link to the peugeot site if you dont believe me!

to make my day even better after teh white lion cub competition, in the afternoon mum called me outside and said the wedgetail eagles were back. i waited, and we heard them call out, and then saw them; three magnificent wedgetailed eagles soaring just over the tops of the gum tree's across the road, and soared right over our heads. its really funny because as soon as i saw them, i grabbed misty, cause i knew they were hunting. usually there is only two wedgetails, but the third was obviously a juvenile. it kept calling out, and it looked as though it was its first flight. the birds were awesome.

last but not least, i hope you all had a great christmas, and that youll also have a fantastic year, which im sure you will!!!!

and this is something i just found on a dog adoption site.... i want to start helping out with these places, probably become a foster for some of the animals when i know whats happening with uni..

Save a Pound Dog" is what you do
Lives have been saved, because of you
Pound dogs on death row heard to say
"Save A Pound Dog" saved my life today".
"We number thousands in all our sorrow
Dogs by the thousand with "no tomorrows"
We listen & hear the pound man say. . .
Sorry mate for you it's "execution day".
Tears running down their lovely face
Fear now making their loyal hearts race
No lying in front of the warm fireplace rug
No one to give them that "final hug".
Just the "hangman" with the "noose in his hand"
Thousands dying in pounds across the land.
Why oh why can't humans ever understand
We'd give our last breath for a pat from your hand.
Then as if a "Miracle" from God..
A group in QLD called "Save A Pound Dog"
They turned the tables right around
Saving death row dogs from death in the pound.
So please support our group on our mission
As the Canine Crusaders we will not fail
As dogs in the pound hears that wonderful sound
"C'mon little mate you won your "final round".
"We'll fly you to freedom, across big blue skies
No more will the pound hear your mournful cries
You will play with the kids of your new family
And the "noose of the hangman" you will never see!

Spring

Well, today i went down the dam to watch the turtles and give them a little bit of food. as usual, they all turned up (all 30 or so) and enjoyed their miniature feed. Then, as i was watching the turtle heads popping up and dissapearing in the water, i noticed a very little head, attatched to a tiny little shell. I'd seen this little baby a few times before, though never this close, cause its extremly cautious (can you blame it?) but today it was as bold as the adult murrays, and was climbing over the adults backs to get food. I decided to pick it up, because i generally keep a vague eye on the condition of the wild turtles (shell, brightness of eyes etc), and watch them to see how they behave naturally. This baby (well, not a very young hatchy, id guess about 3-4 months old. bout the size turt (ma turdle) was at that age) seems to be perfectly healthy with a beautiful (and might i add, algae covered) strong shell. I took some photos of her/him and put him/her back in the dam. she/he kinda swam about 30cm away from me, stuck her/his head up, looked around, and swam off. he/she was so cute  here are some pics of the babe!

Today's actually been pretty eventful, considering the baby animals ive seen today. i was feeding the baby magpies at out place, and the parents kept following me waiting for a feed (neither pair attacks me, i hand feed them and can tell them apart. lol. they follow me, waiting for food. they'd let me touch their chicks if i wanted to) and i rescued a baby plover from a drain, which was lucky that i heard it. it was so cute.. when i went to return it to its parents, i went within about 20m or so of the adults, put the chick on the ground and waited for a mo, to watch the reaction of the parents (they started with 4 chicks, now only have two, the idiots in our school must kill them or something) and the chick was cold, so kept trying to climb back onto my hand. was absolutly gorgeous little bird.. to get it from teh drain i had to lift the steel cover off and go into teh drain to get it.. lmao.. but once i put the chick down i walked another 20m or so away to watch what the parents would do, incase they attacked it (didnt think they would) and one of them came straight over to the chick and started brooding it (tucked the chick under its wings to warm it up) so yeah. ive been guarding these birds for ages, ask ben, amy, frullet, charnstar and carl rofl. its the only time i lose my shyness; when i see someone harrasing/hurting animals.. its surprising how scary i can apparently be. ah well, dont harrass/hurt animals and your safe! (i scared the hell outa these two guys yesterday afternoon, cause they were kicking the parents and harrasiing them... )

ah well, ill shuddup and stop raving about animals now, i kno not too many people actually care about them

Misty survived!

at about 1:30 this afternoon, my mum called me and said that misty was limping, and looked like she had a swollen foot. so i went ot check on her, and her right forepaw was double the size of her other paw. i immediatly thought "snake" and took her to the vets. they gave her a sedative, incase it was a poisonous snake. it would have cost thousands of dollars to give misty the anti venoms (plural, because there are a number of poisonous snakes in our area, so we didnt kno which one she had been bitten by) which, unfortunately, we simply cannot afford. so, because her temp was high, the vet gave her a antibiotic injection on the offchance that the swollen foot was from a bite from a non-venomous snake and caused it to get infected. we took misty home, and i sat with her the whole time. though she was sedated, she was crying and in pain, so i didnt leave her side for hours. however, now the sedative has worn off, and she seems to be ok! her paw is still very saw, though now she is purring and she can walk (though im keeping her as still as possible) so thank God that she's still alive. when i first saw the swollen paw, i noticed some yellow stuff on the surface of her fur. so, all i can assume is that SOMEHOW misty avoided the full force of the snake and its venom. she showed signs of being bitten by a tiger snake, which are deadly. but if it was a tiger snake, she'd be dead. but she's not! so YEAH!! SHE'S ALIVE!! i really thought i was going to lose her...

Catchup time

Well. i havent made a new post any time lately. so, now, its catchup time. warning; long thread!

POT HEAD KITTY!
well, my kitten/cat/whatever resently went to the vets and came back very groggy and a bit lighter (she was de-sexed) but two days later she started to try to pull her stitches out. so i rigged up a headcollar for her, so she couldnt pull the stitches out! nice, stylish blue plant pot attatched to her furry collar (its furry cause she dosnt like it, so scratches it to try to get it off. soon as she stops scratching it, ill get her a new one)

so, picture of the pot-head kitty
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

speaking of which.. taught misty two new things :p to stand on her back legs to reach my hand, and to climb up my leg to my face while im standing.. so cool!

NEW TANK!
And guess what? turt got a new tank! its not as big as id have liked, but its better than what she was in! its a 4 foot x 15 inches deep x 18 inches high,, and turt loves it. when i got it i went downtehdam, got some big rocks for the tank as well as more fish and shrimp for her to chase, and lots of new plants. i had lots of new lillies, and i put tehm in there for her. so what did she do? destroy the lillies and leave shreds of their leaves to get stuck in the new filter... and may i mention that the new filter is MASSIVE! 1500 LPH, its a external canister filter with 4 media trays, one with a mechanical sponge, 2 with biological ceramic rings (for growing my new colonies of friendly bacteria) and 1 tray with carbon in it, for making the water clearer...

turt on one of her new rocks
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

the new tank. theres no lilly leaves (pretty much) still attatched to teh plants, cause she's eaten/destroyed them all, and theres more of teh other type of plant in there cause she likes searching for shrimp in them.... ill be adding black smooth river pebbles for turt to move and search thru, and more plants and a wooden log and ornamenty things...

ps- spot the turtle!

hmm.. well. the first time i tried to post this, i uploaded 11 photos out of 12, and typed about 600 words or whatever. then there was a power surge and my comp froze. i lost the stuff id done, and now all i could be bothered doing is uploading photo's... besides, it appears that noone actually knew i was going on the ski trip in the first place, so there isnt much point posting what it was like, from my point of view.. so.. photos; (note; these arnt nearly all of the photos i took... i took about 250 photos in a week... which isnt many, for me. i was paranoid about my camera)
