Turtle!!

well.. i suppose ive gotten over the fact that i adore my new blog.so i spost that ill stop talking about how cool, and awesome my blog is.i will especially refrain from talking about those gorgeous tiger eyes on teh banner, and the neat text. and, the dark blueish colours, and the sidebar,and...and.. fine,i get the point. to teh point

well, i use these turtle forums all the time. i think its an american, site, but theres tonnes of good ppl on there that know their turts. course, they have no idea what any of the aussie turt species look like, but thats a minor problem. i get lots of help from these guys (at turtle times) and i recently posted a picture comparing how much turt has grown since the 2nd of january 2006 (day she hatched). so heres the pic! she's grown a lot, for a turtle!! considering upsizing her tank to a 4 or 5 footer!

Fraser Island

As some of you may know; the coughran family had a holiday trip to Fraser Island. The cats went to the cattery, the dogs went to the kennels, turt went to amy, and the birds had a minder. So. After the hassles of sorting the animals out, we actually left.

Dad reckoned that it would take 9hrs to get to our first destination; our first campsite, located on the north end of the island. Thankfully, the going on the beach was much better than dad had thought; we reached the campsite after about 7hrs instead of 9. YAY! (we left home at 5:30am) We set up camp, and Carl and dad went to find pippies, to go fishing. We saw our first dingo; a beautiful looking female, which unfortunately I didnt get any good pictures of... Dad and Carl went fishing off some rocks; mum and I followed, and I shot lots of rocks, and waves crashing (by shot, I mean I took photos of) Then, when I looked back to the car, I spotted another dingo. So I told mum, and we both carefully negotiated our way back over all the rocks, so I could hopefully get a picture of the dingo (using the zoom of course; wouldn't get that close!) But teh dingo moved north, so mum and I sat in the car and slept. On another day (cant remember whether it was day 1 or 2) Carl, dad and I drove up to the most northern point of the Island, to check out the lighthouse and just see what the place was like in general. On the way up, I was delighted to see two whales blow off the coast! Then,to get to the lighthouse, it was a 1.2km STEEP climb. Then we realised it wasn't really worth the climb; it was nowhere near the water, and there were trees everywhere so you couldnt see anyway!! So we went back down, and drove back south, and made a detour at the really big sand dunes. Climbed up them, mucked around, and me being me, I took photos.

On the following days, we were real tourists. Looking at lakes, cool creaks, forests and other awesome stuff. In total, I saw 8 dingoes, 2 whales breach, an azure kingfisher, lots of other little birds, lots of adult and juvenile white-bellied sea eagles, brahminy kites, falcons etc. AWESOME place to go wildlife watching!

On the last day (today, being 29th of June) we packed up and headed south to the ferry. Then dad stopped, and said he saw a turtle; so we turned around, and thought the turtle was dead. Then I saw it move feebly; so I jumped out of the car, and picked it up. The poor thing could hardly move, and I spotted a wound on the back of it; part of its shell had snapped off. The wound was clean, and not bleeding, so I just left it as the wound was... Unfortunately I couldnt do anything about it anyway. So, I hopped in the car with a 70cm long green sea turtle, and held it (literally in the air, so it wouldnt get bumped as much on the rough ride) while dad drove about 20km over rough roads. (any of you ever been driving along a beach, on soft sand? like that) eventually we got to the calm water between rainbow beach and sth fraser island, and I walked into the water (completly forgetting I had my phone and camera in my pockets; i was so worried about the turtle) and held the turtle in the water to get it to start paddling. I let it go, it tried to swim, but it was quickly flipped onto its back, so I retrieved it and went about 400m down the beach where the water was practically dead still. Then I went waist deep into the water, and released the turtle. Thankfully, this time it started swimming (feebly though) and got into deeper water. Ill just mention that these were, at this time, box-jellyfish infested water (man-of-wars) thankfully it was the one day in the week i wore long pants, or i coulda had a helecopter trip to a hospital!!

You can be a Hero too

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Have any of you heard the song, Hero (red pill mix) by Superchick? Superchick is a christian band, and a lot of their songs relate to the kind of life many teenagers are living. Lives full of depression, lives full of sadness, lives without a purpose, and most of all; Lives without God. Sadly, a lot of the stuff Superchick sings is true.

if you go to
http://www.musichristian.com/sys/product.php?PRODUCT=31401 you should be able to listen to the track, Hero (Red pill mix)

but if you don't, here are the lyrics to the song...

No one sits with him, he doesn’t fit in
But we feel like we do when we make fun of him
Cause you want to belong do you go along
Cause his pain is the price paid for you to belong
It’s not like we hate him or want him to die
But maybe he goes home and thinks suicide
Or he comes back to school with a gun at his side
And a kindness from you might have saved his life.

Heroes are made when you make a choice
You could be a hero Heroes do what’s right
You could be a hero
You might save a life
You could be a hero,
You could join the fight
For what’s right for what’s right for what’s right

No one talks to her, she feels so alone
She’s in too much pain to survive on her own
The hurt she can’t handle overflows to a knife
She writes on her arm, wants to give up her life
Each day she goes on is a day that she is brave,
Fighting the lie that giving up is the way,
Each moment of courage her own life she saves
When she throws out the pills a hero is made [Chorus]

No one talks to him about how he lives He thinks that the choices he makes are just his Doesn’t know he’s a leader with the way he behaves And others will follow the choices he’s made He lives on the edge, he’s old enough to decide His brother who wants to be him is just nine He can do what he wants because it’s his right The choices he makes change a nine year old’s life [Chorus]

little mikey dean was the one in class, who every day got brutally harassed, this went on for years, so he decided that never again would he shed any tears. So he walked through the door and grabbed the 44 outa his father’s dresser draw, and said i can’t take life no more. And like that life can be lost. But this ain’t even about that. All of us kids sat back, and watched it happen, thinking it’s not our responsibility to solve their problem. It isn’t about me. But this is our problem! This is just one of the daily scenarios which we close to eyes our eyes on instead of doin the right thing. if we make a choice, be a voice for those who wont speak up for themselves. How many lives could we change, re-arrange, now it’s our time to pick a side. So don’t you walk on by that one in the v cause you just wanna make sense and never be seen so let’s wake up, face the world. The time is now!... the time is now!.... the time is now!

I used to be one of those people. this part of the song;

No one talks to her, she feels so alone She’s in too much pain to survive on her own The hurt she can’t handle overflows to a knife She writes on her arm, wants to give up her life Each day she goes on is a day that she is brave, Fighting the lie that giving up is the way, Each moment of courage her own life she saves When she throws out the pills a hero is made

applied to me, though I wasn't quite this desperate. This was when my life felt like it had no purpose. When I felt like I was useless, and that everyone hated me. When I was walking my life without God by my side. Thanks to Jesus, I've been drawn towards the comfort of Gods embrace. My life has a purpose. I have a reason to live. God's love towards me will Never waver. Even if I feel as though I am constantly being rejected by other people, I know the Lord will always be there for me.

Now, I hope that I can have an influence on people who are going through tough periods in their life. I don't want anyone to have to feel alone all the time. I don't want anyone to feel as though they are trapped. I don't want anyone to have to walk through life without ever comming to know God.

Just think; You can be a hero. You can help bring others to God, by showing them what Jesus did for them. By showing them just how much Jesus loved them; he gave his life for them because he loved them SO much. The time IS now.

Just by bringing others to church, or one80... you can help them a lot. If you see someone sitting alone at school; don't just ignore them and pretend they don't exist. Show them they're not alone....

I know this post may not mean much to you. Some of you might not understand what I was trying to say. But just think over it... Post any thoughts if you like.

Photo time!
G'day again people.. just thought id post lots of pictures that ive taken.. from the ski trip (like the great piccy above; a view of the highest point in australia) lots were taken from our latest holiday.. the piccy at the bottom was the cool pic i took of the guitar player from.. guess which band... SOULFRAME!! soon, in the first week of the June holidays, ill be able to take lots of photos from fraser island; scenery, dingos, birds, and hopefully.. HOPEFULLY, whales. i want to see whales again. theyre so big and beautiful and gentle and... and... andd... im sure im boring you already, so;
this photo was taken just before the bats started flying over
from the right side of the picture. they kept comming, and
comming, and comming, and comming, and comming, and
comming, and comming, and comming, and comming, and
then they eventually stopped comming. believe it or not.

least its a biggish picture. im sure i could post a bigger one. but im sure many of you would not like that. so i shall not post a bigger picture. maybe.

bored..

hey, have you ever though about which stupid people invented with stupid words? like... 'stick.' i mean. what inspired someone to call the things that fall off 'trees' sticks? i mean. did they just randomly put those letters together till they found a cool sounding combination? and there are some words, that if you keep saying them, they lose their meaning and you forget how to pronounce them. try it. try it with any word.

oh well. short post. got to go work.

added, just for the amazing supertiph, to jog her memory...

Random Rambling

Hey check out the picture i made ---> All in microsoft paint (the simple, plain, boring program) 30 slides in total, each made in paint, then taken into animation shop 2. yeah. um. yeah. and the text lies. its now 90 combat, but anyway. Theres a better version of this, with stars, but i cant find it... Ive made a lot of these 'signatures' for lots of other people... people used to pay me in game money to make them a sig. I was wellish known. go me, i was wanted for something! YeAH!

If anyone [that is, if anyone reads this anyway...] has cool ideas of things for me to do in paint (same tecnique as the dragon above) or in photoshop, lemme know, aye? I need major ideas, to give me something to do in my spare time. I like making funny pictures, but im horrible at thinking of ideas. The carl-turdle was seans idea, as was the Carl + Sean@ bonds man/men... so yeah... um... yeah.

Today was weird. I mean.. really weird.. I was on the computer, working on AutoCAD, doing work for once, listening to music. Then I notice that the other... 'annoying, rude' people in my class are mucking up/around more often to usual. i pause the music and listen, and the school fire alarm thingy is going off.. so i pack my bag, shut the compujter down and walk to the oval, as is the usual procedure (except, your supposed to drop everything and leave the classroom in 'an orderly fashion' got to teh oval, found ryyarn, started annoying him.. then eventually the principle turned up, and told us that it wasnt a fire alarm.. it was actually just to get a 'emergency full school assembly' to tell us all that the plumbers had gone thru a water pipe (or something-or-otha) and the water was contaminated with dirt and other assorted chemicals/ therefore; no toilets and no water at all. great. just what u need in a school of 2000+ students... anyway, everyone (not just us cool seniors) were all told to get lost (well. not those exact words.. but thats what they meant. Do not pass go, do not stop at Garden city, and make a detoir via the office if you require a phone to make a call to your parents...') well.. that was teh most exciting part of the day...

And below, i give you a dodgy modification of the previously awesome one80 logo thingyo! the original is still awesome.. just not my dodgy flame modifaction one... it is being badz... (please note that quality has been lost whilst uploading and posting this picture/image. when uploading something happened to one of the slides so the pixels on the logo dont line up with the others.. o well)

Hey, this what is written on the bookmark i bought a lil while ago, when amy, pauline, carl and myself made a trip to koorong. anyway.. i just love this;

Footprints

One night I had a dream. I was walking along the beach with the Lord and I noticed two sets of footprints in the sand, but I noticed that many times along the path of life there was only one set of footprints.

And I noticed that it was at the lowest and saddest times in my life. I asked, 'Lord, you said that once I decided to follow You, You would walk with me all the way. But during the most troublesome times in my life, there is only one set of footprints. I don't understand why You left my side when I needed you the most." The Lord said, "My precious child, I never left you during your time of trial. Where you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you."

I just love that.. It shows how much our God loves us. He never abandons us, even when it may look like he has in our own eyes.....

anyway'z... cya'z l8tr'z aye'z? got'z to'z catch'z fish'z

New Arrival

We now have a new arrival at our home!

Today we went up to the shops as a family- and as usual, I went to teh pet store to look at the pets (being the animal lover I am). There were these beautiful kittens... there were a number which caught my eye, and I stood there watching them for ages. When I found mum and dad again, I began asking them If I could borrow $25. This was the amount I needed to buy a kitten. They said yes, and then asked what It was for. When I said 'a kitten' both of them said exactly the same thing, faster then the speed of light- 'NO'. so i kept working on them, and I spied a weakness in mum; she was close to letting me get a kitten. Then she eventually said that she didnt care, and ask your father (as they do) so I asked dad, and he said he didnt care. so i ran back to teh pet store and watched teh kittens for a while. then eventually I chose the grey kitten. fancy that. me with ANOTHER grey cat. i think that every cat ive owned has been grey. but this little kitty is a beautiful little girl. She was sleeping a lot in the pet store- but when I got her home, she didnt stop running around. shes finally fallen asleep though- after eating and having a drink. Shes so beautiful... now I get the honor of getting her used to our dogs and merlin (my otehr cat) who loathes other cats. But it will be worth it!!

I now need a name for her... not so good at names.. feel free to post with suggestions! (nothing like 'edible' and the like...that insults me..)

ciao all

(having problems at the moment, so go to http://community.webshots.com/user/xvxShadowxvx and go into the kitten album!

The Terrific Turt!!!!

THE TERRIFIC TURT!!!

And so the tale of the terrific turt begins on the 2nd of January, 2006. When I got turt on the 2nd of January, 2006, she had just hatched. Being the size of a 20cent coin, she was extremly minute. One could easily make the mistake handing her over whilst in the process of buying a 20cent sugar fix. However, I dearly loved my terrific, lovable, adorable turt since the second I saw her.

When we first moved into our new home, located in Bahrs Scrub (no, I shall not say near where that place I speak of is located, as you shall all laugh) I was amazed and delighted when I realised that we had a resident turtle in our dam. However, weeks later, I was even more delited when I realised that there was in fact 2 turtles. In the process of de-weeding the dam, I soon discovered that we in fact had many a turtle in our dam. Numbers in the 20+ at the time. those numbers soon increased.. at a rather rapid rate, may I add.

We now have many a turtle resident in our dam (estimates are at 30+), which resides on our block of land, at the bottom of the 'slope.' All of these turtles, may I inform you, delite in comming out of the water in an attempt to gnaw on my assorted fingers, toes, skin, hands, feet and any other part of me they can reach. And yes, I can easily assure you that they hurt when they manage to grab an unguarded, un-suspecting limb. This is simply because I am the colour of the food which I always come bearing for my fellow turtles. Oh my... did I just say 'fellow' turtles? I didn't mean that... I meant... Oh, darn. My cover is blown. My hidden identity of being a turtle has now been revealed. Anyway, I shall now continue with my tale......

There used to be a turtle at the dam (believe it or not) that was extremly big (even though the otehrs are all big) that was about 50cm long +. massive turtle. I loved her though. She was always the first to show up when I went down the dam and always the last to leave. She always enjoyed trying to eat me more often than the other turtles. And because of her size, she was really strong, and could bite REALLY hard- hard enough to draw blood... But unfortunately she dissapeared a little while ago... She simply stopped showing up for feeding =( I miss that turdle ='(

Then I thought there was a snapping turtle in our dam. I thought I was hallucinating when I first saw it. I was sitting on the bridge, feeding the turtles, when I briefly glimpsed a very weird, big headed turtle. It had weird, cool markings on its head. However I jumped when I saw it, and it swam away. Over the next couple of weeks, I would catch ocasional glimpses of the 'Elusive snapping turtle'. No-one believed me when I said we had a weird turtle in our dam. Until carl saw it... Eventually the elusive turtle started comming out of the water for brief moments to snatch up LOTS and LOTS of food.. Then it started showing up all the time. And then I realised that this turtle only ocasionally had the weird markings on its head, while othertimes they wern't there. Then I noticed that some days it was bigger than on others... Then finally I saw two weird looking, snapping turtle-like turtles at the same time. It was at this stage I started plotting ways to catch these turtles (without getting my fingers bitten off), so I could give them to the QLD government pest manage control place, as snapping turtles are considered as pests. Then I realised that there was a baby snapping turtle. This was the stage at which I started to worry. Then thankfully, Lesley lent me some turtle books, and I realised that these 'snapping turtles' were in fact Australian Saw Shelled Turtles, and that they are the only known native australian animal to successfully prey on cane toads! it was at this stage I decided that i may permit them to live in the dam.....

One day I was feeding the turtles, and a relatively small turtle came out of the water. As a sudden urge, I picked it up, as I had never actually looked at thses turtles properly. Then I realised that this turtle had a birth defect - instead of having four well formed legs and webbed feet, this turtle only had three properly formed legs- its forth was simply a pale creamy coloured stump. It really shocked me, because I didnt know it was possible. I put the turtle back in the dam, and decided from then on to give that turtle more food. It joined my favourite list of turtles.

Believe it or not, I can actually tell the turtles apart. I can tell in a number of ways; personality, size, markings, eyes, the amount of algae on their shells, the markings on their shells etc etc. Many of my favourites i nclude the one with bright yellow eyes (and I mean bright) the one with larger, thicker, bolder, well outlined yellow stripes down the side of her head (yes I can tell the difference between male and female turtles) , theres also the medium sized male with the greyish yellow, wide, not well defined stripe down the sides of his head. This particular male is always late for feeding, and rushes in at 100km/second, I swear. Then he'll rush around, climb out of the water and follow me, looking for food.

Now I have a gorgeous, beautiful little girl. (turtle...) She resides in my room, is a spoilt little brat, and eats fishes. This little turt of mine has also recently had a tank upgrade- she now has deeper water, live plants, a large area to bask etc etc. Have I mentioned I wub my turdle?? Oh, and incase you hadn't figured already, she is called turt. She was given this name as a mistake... When I first got het, dad asked what I was going to call her. Just in an attempt to be funny, I said 'Turt' and went inside the house. Later he asked me how turt was going. So from then on, She has been turt- and she always will be! Turt hatched on the 2nd of January, 2006. And im absolutly amazed at how much she has grown since then. I mean, I took a photo of her next to a 20cent coin the day I got her. her shell was only just the same size as the coin. so small! so gorgeous and cute =D Now she's grown so she's much bigger than the coin.. I keep taking progress photos so i can see how much she's grown.. And she eats so much now! I mean.. She downs 10 fish in the morning, 2 or 3 every 1 or 2 hours, and 10 again at night! This is my little turt im talking about! So I get the honor of going down the dam every couple of days, to catch fish. I have to distract the other turtles with food on one side, while I then run to the other, sit down with my big pool net, and catch fish. However, I know Im in trouble when I see little heads popping out of the water around me. Its about that time that I leave, because I get too distracted whilst catching the fishies, so the turtles find it as a perfect opportunity to bite me. I tell you, you jump when they bite.

Feel free to check out this site http://community.webshots.com/user/xvxShadowxvx to look at cool pictures of ma ickle turt! And if your bored enough, feel free to post comments!
